ITT Industries' Fluid Businesses Launch New Website: www.ittfluidbusiness.com

09/09/2003

A glance from an passenger jet window provides us with a bird's-eye view of the landscape, populated with human activity-cities, factories and vast suburbs. It's probably not often as we gaze out on this view that our minds would turn to some of the key technologies that is at the heart of making all of this human activity possible - the pump. That's because the millions of pumps and other fluid handling products that power so much of our lives in this "fluid world" are hidden from our view...behind walls and factory gates, and in holes in the ground.

As a way to communicate it leadership in various fluid handling markets, ITT Industries has created a "virtual world" on the internet. By touring this world, visitors can take a step beyond the bird's-eye view to see how ITT's fluid products and systems serve the needs of its customers in many different markets.

Launched on September 1, the new website reflects the changing makeup and integrated solutions provided by ITT's fluid businesses. Located at http://www.ittfluidbusiness.com, the new site gives customers, prospects and other constituents a comprehensive view of the relationships between the company's many complimentary brands.

Since 1995 ITT Industries has steadily expanded in its core water andwastewater pump markets through aggressive product innovation and organicsales growth. At the same time, the company has added to its capabilities in complimentary markets -- including aeration, monitoring, filtration and reverse osmosis -- through a series of strategic acquisitions. The new website aims to demonstrate how ITT's new products and acquired capabilities mesh to provide customers with complete systems in water, wastewater, building trade, bio-chemical/pharmaceutical, and industrial markets.

"We continue to execute on a business strategy designed to bring together products and services in adjacent markets in order to deliver greater value through complete solutions -- not just standalone products," said Robert Ayers, president of ITT Industries' Fluid Technology group. "Our new website
illustrates this strategy for customer and prospects and makes it easy for them to visualize ITT's capabilities."

The new site uses new web technologies and a "simulated environment" design to present visitors with typical municipal or industrial fluid handling applications. By clicking through these simulated environments, guests can drill-down within specific applications to get detailed information about ITT brands and products at play. Customers can then click through to the home pages of individual brands - like Lowara - to get customer service or sales information.

"Because ITT has changed significantly over the past few years, there is a clear need to educate our customers and prospects on the wide range of fluid handling products and services the company provides," said Bjorn von Euler, director of communications for ITT Fluid Technology. "This site provides visitors a comprehensive bird's-eye view of how our many industry-leading brands come together to provide "total fluid handling solutions" for many applications."

Using the Eyes of the Customer

Many of the customers for ITT's fluid products and systems are global organizations, spanning many countries and markets. They are looking for more "total solutions" from their vendors. For instance, a municipal engineer may want to find out what ITT's total offerings are in wastewater. Likewise, in building trades. As John Beca, marketing communications director for Goulds Pumps notes, "You can't answer that questions by saying we have Goulds and we have Lowara, etc. What is called for is to present ourselves in a way that looks at our markets from the customer point of view." Continuing, Beca says that, "The end result of presenting our message this way is to enable a bigger transaction from out customers, involving multiple value centers for a specific customer application."

A Virtual Organization for a Virtual World

The detailed illustrations for the web site were created by Planet 11, a technical illustration company in Stockholm, Sweden. The company was chosen for its artistic competence as well as for similar work that had been produced for ITT Flygt over the years. The unique web design and programming was performed by Inovia Media, a Connecticut-based multi-media production company. All research, content development and project management was handled by Lazar Creative Group, a New York-based marketing communications firm with a background in industrial communications.

This "virtual" approach to the work served Von Euler well, "While we were sleeping, the Swedes were working on the illustrations and e-mailing us files to use during our work day. The virtual nature of the work allowed all parties - including all of my communications colleagues in the value centers to share the information on a simultaneous basis and make informed decisions in a timely manner.
