RE: Sept. 11 Events- Update #1

It has been two days since we first learned of the tragic events in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. While the horror of these events is still very fresh, I think it's important to share the pride I have felt in the measured reactions, and in the outpouring of sympathy and support from ITT colleagues and friends from all over the world. Further, I appreciate the suggestions and comments I have received from many of you on how we can get through this. These are the bright spots on what is otherwise an unspeakable tragedy, and they give me confidence in the future of ITT, the United States and the global community.

I'm sure I speak for all of you when I express my condolences for the victims and their families, and in some cases for ITT employees who have friends and relatives who were impacted. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, as well as the men and women hard at work still hoping to rescue survivors.

Many of you have asked about corporate plans to contribute money and resources. Here in White Plains, many individuals have personally contributed to local fund and food drives, and we will be making a local contribution to the American Red Cross. Additionally, ITT Industries intends to make a significant corporate donation to a single organization that will directly benefit families of the victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. I will make sure that you know which organization we ultimately choose to support.

Again, I want to thank you all for your support and compassion for each other during these last difficult days.
