Conference on "Sister water... know it to save it"
11/06/2002
On 14 March at Borgo San Dalmazzo, in the province of Cuneo a conference organised by the local Lions Club with the contribution of Lowara was held to increase awareness of the use of water.
In front of a large and attentive audience consisting of free-lance professionals, local administrators and members of the public different topics were addressed regarding water, the essential element for life that can run out.
Although families in the West consume an average of about 250 litres daily this is less than 20% of total consumption. Manufacturing industry consumes a further 10% whilst the remaining 70% is consumed by agriculture, most of it through irrigation. This last point was the subject of specific lectures on the water requirements of the Cuneo area. Its position at the foot of the Alps and the types of crops that have recently been introduced mean that the concentrated water resources of the spring months are not sufficient for the prolonged agricultural needs of the summer months. In addition, the lack of collection basins, reservoirs and rivers aggravates the summer water shortage.
The talks on new perspectives for water addressed the themes of conservation, distribution and recycling of water.
In particular, great attention was paid to modern technologies for managing water that enable distribution to be rationalised and waste to be diminished through the use of efficient products and control and distribution systems provided by companies in the industry, including Lowara, which presented products that can meet all these needs.
The conference showed how each citizen can save water even in simple daily operations such as washing or household tasks and how this can heighten awareness of the use of water as a finite resource and cause local authorities to use water more wisely and eliminate waste and leaks in the management and distribution of water resources.
