Agricultural application for Lowara SH Series in South Africa

09/01/2003

An interesting application ih the agricultural field near Johannesburg in South Africa.
The local Lowara distributor Hypower Pumps together with Omnia Company find a useful and advantageous solution using Lowara pumps in agricultural application.

Omnia Fertiliser Company have two depots at Dehmus and Hekterspruit, 80 and 520 Km. East of Johannesburg respectively.
The Company supplies products to the farmers in the form of bulk pesticide, fungicide or fertiliser.
There are two services provided by Omnia, utilising the Bells Truck and the Road Tamker.

The bells truck.
This is a vehicle developed by Omnia which comprises a satellite tracking system which on Track1, analysis the soil by automatically inserting probes into the ground and via an on-board computer analysis the soil requirement. The entire field is mapped with this technique
Track 2 is where the vehicle goes back over the same mapping and drills holes into the soil and injects the correct mixture of chemicals as per the computer soil analysis.
The vehicle carries 3 bulk tanks on board from which the correct mixture of chemicals is drawn via the computer which controls the speed of the hydraulic motor which drives the Lowara pump SHF 50-160.

The Road Tanker.
This vehicle takes the bulk chemicals from the dept and transfers the contents into tanks on the farm. The SHF 32-200 and SHF 40-160 Lowara pumps on the road tanker driven by hydraulic motors to transfer the various chemicals.
The chemicals applied are activated by overhead rotating central pivot water systems or by rainfall.
The power supply to the computer requirement is via the vehicle’s 24 Volt battery system. The power supply for the pump drive and the drilling of holes is via an hydraulic pump fitted to the vehicle engine.

Previously, for this application, were utilized pumps in stainless steel 316,in fusion, but now, thanks to the new Lowara SH series, printed stainless steel 316 pumps, the customer decided to install these new pumps on their vehicles.
The result of this selection show it to be very successful both from the technical and economical point of view, and also confirmed the versatility of Lowara products for many different applications.
