IFW Berlin 2003

«WASSER Berlin»

This specialised international trade fair for the water industry was held this year from 7th to 11th April in the new exhibition centre halls under the radio tower, for the third time together with the «GAS Berlin» trade fair.

As well as local councils, visitors to this special fair comprised water distribution operators from government and industry, engineers and experts in the building and underground construction sectors, well drilling, waterworks construction and other sectors, representatives from domestic and international organisations, specialised traders, water management experts, scientists, representatives of industry associations and institutions, government officials and high-level administrators.

Every three years, international experts in the water distribution and wastewater treatment sectors meet together here for an international conference on WATER. The conference comprises discussions with experts from all over the world on a variety of water-related topics.
The agenda of this year's discussion forum included the following issues:
- EU directives on water and their implementation in Europe
- management of national and international fluvial areas - hydrographic basins
- decision-making systems for the effective management of water resources
- digital data exchange between water distribution and wastewater treatment companies
- Local based Services in water and gas management
- new pipeline construction technologies
- building wells
- substances currently contained in water and water treatment
- hygiene and microbiology: new ways of protecting untreated water
- research for the future of Europe and the United States

The other specialised event is the international fair of water distribution products, the missing link between theory and practice.

Conferences of the International Water Association (IWA, London), during which issues such as funding, profitability and water management by companies were discussed, and the 4th International pipeline construction symposium was also held.

Once again, the "Infoschau" (information show) ran parallel to the Congress and specialised fairs. This event provided information to the general public, especially young people, about water-related problems. The show was designed to allow visitors who are unfamiliar with water-related issues to seek further information and become actively involved in finding solutions.

For Lowara Deutschland GmbH,the German branch of Lowara S.r.l., a member of the ITT Industries Fluid Technology Corp. group, the IFW Berlin trade fair is one of those events that attracts precisely the right kind of public and products for the company's offer.

For 5 days, a committed and highly motivated team welcomed national and international visitors to a well-equipped open stand featuring submersible water pumps, close-coupled stainless steel and cast iron electric pumps for water distribution, high pressure cast iron and stainless steel electric booster sets, and - last but not least - the new Grinder pumps for pressurised draining.

Special attention was paid to Life Cycle Cost and energy saving. In this sense, the extensive range of HYDROVAR® models aroused great interest.
As there was a model on show during the exhibition, visitors were able to see how the inlet level of a collection tank was adjusted according to variable user requirements. Fans of leading-edge technology were particularly interested in viewing all the HYDROVAR® functions on a display, as well as "Pumplink" graphs of pressure, capacity and filling level values.

Visitors and old hands in the sector were invited to take part in a quiz to put their knowledge to test. They were asked to guess the quantity of water moved by our model of collection tank during the five days of the fair.

The Lowara stand was visited by lots of potential and active customers. Our visitors were mainly water distributors, salesmen, designers and fitters. During the extremely positive discussions with them, various interesting requirements emerged that we are currently developing.
